Since 1999, the UCSF Fresno Latino Center for Medical Education and Research has been partnering with area school districts to nurture the development of individuals to become health care professionals who will ultimately return to the San Joaquin Valley and provide culturally competent health care services to the medically underserved. The programs operate on a contract basis with the school districts and student eligibility requirements may vary based on district. Students from culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse communities, as well as those who would become first in their family to attend college, are highly encouraged to apply.
What does a partnership entail?
- Financial support (minimum of 4 years)
- Designate credentialed teachers to serve as program teachers for each cohort of students
- Designate a lead site administrator to be point of contact for program need
- Outreach and recruitment assistance
- Provide resources, support and space for assigned coordinator and site specific programming
- Additional requirements are negotiable
