What is the interview like?
Students will participate in an individual interview with two interviewers—typically one representative from the school site and one from UCSF Fresno.
Sunnyside applicants will also participate in a group interview. Additional instructions will be provided with the interview invitation.
What questions will I be asked?
All applicants are asked the same interview questions. The interview begins with an icebreaker that is not scored, followed by questions that help us learn more about you, your experiences, your interest in Doctors Academy, and your goals.
There are no “perfect” answers. We encourage you to answer honestly and in your own words.
What should I wear?
Wear something clean, neat, and comfortable that helps you feel confident. Professional attire is encouraged but is not required, and students do not receive additional points based on appearance.
How should I prepare for my interview?
Think about why you are interested in Doctors Academy, what you would like us to know about you, and what you hope to learn or experience in the program. Be ready to talk about your school experiences, interests, goals, and involvement in your community.
You do not need to memorize answers. We want to hear from you, so answer questions honestly and in your own words.
How long will my interview be?
Arrival: Check in 5–10 minutes before your scheduled time.
Individual interview: Approximately 15–20 minutes
Sunnyside group interview: Approximately 20 minutes
Sunnyside applicants should plan to allow up to one hour for the full interview process.
When will I know if I have been accepted into the program?
Students who complete a finalist interview will be notified of their admission status by email approximately 4–6 weeks after interviews.
Students offered conditional acceptance will receive instructions for confirming their spot in the Doctors Academy cohort.
Does a Junior Doctors Academy (JDA) student receive special consideration?
No. Participation in Junior Doctors Academy does not guarantee acceptance or provide special consideration. All applicants are reviewed using the same admissions criteria.
Can my parents attend my interview?
Parents/guardians do not participate in the student interview. Information about where parents/guardians may wait will be provided based on the interview location.
Can I reschedule my interview?
No. Interview dates and times are assigned due to the limited availability of interviewers and the many number of interviews.
Does a complete submission of the Fresno Unified transfer form mean I am a top candidate for the program?
All Fresno Unified students applying to the Doctors Academy must complete a transfer form. This is a district requirement should a student be accepted into the program. All applicants are reviewed using the same admissions criteria.
